A Call for Defense

Last Sunday after our evening service, most of the teenagers from our church played soccer together. My brother was playing goalie. He's only played this position a couple of times. The ball was coming towards his goal, and the players who were supposed to be playing defense for him were out of position. One of the guys started coming towards him with the ball, and as an unexperienced goalie, my brother got a little scared. He started yelling, "Hey! I need defense! I need DEFENSE!!" I was playing on the opposite end of the field from him, and started laughing as I watched the players scramble back into position in response to his screaming. The defense successfully blocked the goal and the game continued.

So when's the last time you yelled for defense? Satan's trying to score on you, and you can't keep him from scoring on your own. God is your defense! He's there to keep Satan away from you. God will never be out of position, but you need to yell for His help. The Bible says, "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and show thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not." (Jeremiah 33:3).

Unlike our soccer game, you are guaranteed success with God on your side. The guy playing defense for my brother couldn't always keep the ball away for him, but God will ALWAYS be able to keep Satan away from you. "No temptation has taken you but such as is common to man; but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able, but will with the temptation also make the way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it." 1 Corinthians 10:13. God will always make a way for us to escape. All we have to do is call for defense, and He will be there to defend us.

  1. Truly my soul waiteth upon God:from Him cometh my salvation. He only is my rock and my salvation; he is my defence; I shall not be greatly moved.
    Psalm 62:1-2
