Again, I would like to say...

And here we are at this time of year again...summer. School's out (for some of you who graduated like me, school's really OUT!), and you have a little more free time. Maybe you're working a job or just doing fun things that you enjoy.       I know I have said this before, but it was a long time ago. So again, I would like to suggest...if you have the opportunity, go to camp! Going to a Christian camp is an incredible way to have fun, strengthen your walk with Christ, and meet some new friends.       I personally always have a ton of fun when I go to camp (I've been to three different ones through the years and I've loved all of them). Not to say that there won't be people who are annoying or cause problems, because that happens everywhere. But besides being so much fun, camp is a great place to focus on your spiritual life for a week. If you ask the Holy Spirit to work in your heart during the week, He will. You won't have the...

I Will Not Fear

"The LORD is on my side; I will not fear, what can man do unto me?" Psalm 118:6     There are so many things that people are afraid of in this world. People fear the dark, animals, natural disasters, and other people. But in this verse it says "I will not fear".  Now this doesn't mean that we should be foolish. We shouldn't walk down a dark alleyway quoting this verse and then be upset when we get attacked and robbed.      The problem starts when we let our fears control us. If your fears are keeping you from doing the things you need to be doing then you need to change the way you're thinking. Fear can keep you from thinking straight and impair your ability to make decisions. The verse says, "what can man do unto me?". We cannot allow our fear of man to get in the way of living our lives or serving the Lord. The Lord is on our side, so no one can truly harm us. They cannot take away our salvation, God's love for us, or our home in Heave...

The Happiest Man

"A man who has found out what his true work is- winning souls to Christ- and does it, such is the happiest man."   -D.L. Moody     Do you want to be happy? Take the advice of this wise man and share the Saviour at every opportunity.  Anyone who has ever witnessed to someone knows that it is the best feeling in the world. We have the most exciting news in the world- and some people have never heard a word of it!      I think we have a tendency to assume people are going to be upset when we talk about the Lord. But that's not always the case. A few days ago when I was at work I mentioned my church to one of my coworkers. She asked what my religion was. As I began to explain that I'm not "religious" and that I'm saved by the grace of God, she teared up and was excited. I don't believe this lady is a born-again believer, but she still was completely open to hearing about my faith.      Share your Saviour with the world and not on...

I'm Confused!

I have been working at a grocery store as a cashier for about 10 months. In this time, I have seen hundreds of different people with hundreds of different views and ideas. I've had coworkers who are agnostics, customers that are Catholic, and all different people who don't know what they believe. I have seen people from different backgrounds, different religions, and different countries.        Each of the people I have seen believes something. Something that they believe to be truth. Sometimes they are very open about it, and sometimes they don't mention it at all. Sometimes their actions show what they believe. Some of the people I have seen wear shirts that proudly proclaim that they are against abortion, and they are willing to fight against it. Others wear jewelry that tells others that they are part of the LGBTQ+ "community", and they believe that it is acceptable. So, as we see all these people in the world who are telling us all thes...

Throw on the Wood

Image
"Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out..." Proverbs 26:20      A few days ago, my family was having a bonfire in our backyard. The fire was started and burning well, but it needed more fuel. We had a box of pieces of scrap wood that we had used to start the fire sitting nearby so I began to throw some of those onto the fire. "If you want the fire to grow you're going to have to throw some bigger fuel on." my Dad commented. It was a casual comment, but my cousin who was standing next to me (a very smart person) immediately drew a spiritual comment from the remark. He told me I had permission to use it, so this is his thought in my words.  Our fire was just like our spiritual lives. We can keep them burning by throwing little bits of kindling onto it but if we want to grow we need to add some logs and big chunks of wood. You could probably survive on three church services a week, but if you want to grow your fire need logs- Bible reading, prayer time, time wi...

I Delight in thy Law

This months devotional comes from Joshua R. Walter (again😝) from Clays Mills Baptist Church in Lexington, KY.   "Their heart is as fat as grease; but I delight in thy law." Psalm 119:70  It would be good to start with making sure that we know what this verse is saying. When it says, “Their heart is as fat as grease,” it does not mean that these people have a heart that is physically overweight. The word “fat” or the phrase “fat as grease” in this context means spoiled, having an abundance, more than enough. You could say that these people have been spoiled rotten, they have so much stuff that they no longer even care about everything they have anymore. And who are we talking about when we say “Their?” “Their heart is as fat as grease.” Who is “their?” Look at verse 69- "t he proud have forged a lie against me: but I will keep thy precepts with my whole heart."  The proud. The proud is the “Their” in verse 70. Now, the proud is just a very exclusive group. That incl...
