What a Day will Bring Forth

"Boast not thyself of to morrow, for thou knowest not what a day will bring forth." Proverbs 27:1 "Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away." James 4:14     Tonight in church my Pastor asked for prayer for a family whose 8-year-old daughter is dying. A couple of weeks ago a family that goes to our church lost their one-year-old daughter in a tragic accident. At the end of our service tonight Pastor had a time of prayer and asked everyone to pray for the family he had made the announcement about. I prayed for the family and their daughter, and then added something else. Starting with the 4th-6th graders and working my way down to the babies in the nursery, I prayed for every kid in our church by name. I looked at the little girls sitting in front of me and realized that there was no guarantee that they would be there next Sunday. It was a terrible thought.   ...

Just One More

My brother sang a duet with our youth leader in church today, and I really enjoyed the song because I needed the reminder this week. They sang that "a lifetime of labor is still worth it all, if it rescues just one more soul".  I started working at a grocery store about 14 months ago. I haven't had a lot of questions about what I believe and what kind of church I go to. Everyone knows I go to church and I'm "religious", but not very many people had asked about it yet. I had one or two witnessing opportunities, but they hadn't led to anything. Then two weeks ago it started. First a middle-aged lady started asking me why I don't wear pants and what denomination my church was. I answered all of her questions and explained to her my reasons for what I believe. Then a couple days later came the real hard one. I was working with a guy who is the same age as me, and he asked me why I don't wear pants. I said I was a Christian and he asked "what...

Destroy your Enemies

“Do I not destroy my enemies when I make them my friends?” ― Abraham Lincoln.          When I was around 7 or 8 years old there was a girl who went to my church who didn't like me very much. She was a year or two older than I was and could be pretty mean to me at times. I remember one night at church when she had been particularly upset, I went home and told my mom what had been going on. My mom decided we would 'heap some coals' and see if we could make the situation any better. The girl loved cats, so my mom took me to the store, and we picked out a little cat decoration for her. Then we baked them an apple pie and took both to her house. When we got there she wouldn't even come out of her room, but we left the pie and the gift for her. I thought it was great and pretty funny, because we did something nice to a mean person. The girl never very mean to me after that, and I have always remembered what we did.     So what's the best way...

Stop Blowing, Start Glowing

“ A holy life will produce the deepest impression. Lighthouses blow no horns; they only shine. ” -D.L Moody     Just imagine if there was a lighthouse with a big airhorn on the top, and a little man was pulling a cord to make it blow. It wouldn't do much good, would it? If it was daytime the ships would be able to see the rocks, and if it was night the light would help them- and a big noise certainly wouldn't help them know where the rocks were. Not only would the horn be useless, it would also be pretty annoying. No one wants to listen to a noise like that over and over again.      Now imagine a Christian blowing their horn. It doesn't do much good, does it? People don't care what you say, they care what you do. You can tell them all about your faith and say all the things that you believe, but if you don't shine your light by your actions, they won't care a bit. They'll think you're a hypocrite. And a horn-blowing Christian can get pretty annoying. We...

Dominance

Image
This month's devotional comes from Mr. Josiah Adams from Heritage Baptist church in Palmyra, N.Y.   Recently I was flipping through a magazine and seen this advertisement pictured.  And I thought 'you know, that's right' we   can  assert   Dominance.   You can assert  Dominance  over Satan! If you've ever had a time in your life when you asked Jesus Christ into your life and accepted Him as your personal Saviour, you have  dominance  over Satan. He no more has any power over you and should have no influence on you. You are a changed person for the furtherance of the work of God! You have  DOMINION  over Satan and He can do nothing to you. Romans 6:14 "For sin shall not have  dominion  over you: for you not under the law, but under grace". When anyone gets saved sin has no power because were no longer bound by sin were bound by God's grace. When you put your faith in God You took the power from sin and handed...
