Ask thy Father

Image
" Remember the days of old, consider the years of many generations: ask thy father, and he will shew thee; thy elders, and they will tell thee." Deuteronomy 32:7     This Memorial day, take a few moments to ask someone you respect- your parent, grandparent, pastor, or someone else to just take a moment to remember. To recall a special event or a lesson they learned in their life and ask them to tell you about it. Learn from their wisdom and experience, and make an effort to know about the people who came before you.

What Do you Want?

"Do not wait, the time will never be 'just right'. Start where you stand."       What do you want in your life? What do you want to be good at? What do you want to be like? Think of one thing that you really want to do, or something you really want to change about yourself. Now ask yourself this question; what am I doing to accomplish that?      If you're not working on it, it's never going to happen. That dream will never become reality unless you work towards it. Sitting and thinking about a goal isn't going to make it come true. If you want to play an instrument, practice. If you want to have a better prayer life, pray. If you want to be fit, work out. If you want to get good grades, study. If you want to know the Bible, read it. Whatever you want to do, work for it, strive for it.      What do you want to do to prepare for life? Do you want to know how to take care of a home, handle money, be a good parent,...

You've got to get out of the Boat

" And in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went unto them, walking on the sea.   And when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, It is a spirit; and they cried out for fear.   But straightway Jesus spake unto them, saying, Be of good cheer; it is I; be not afraid.   And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water.   And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus."                                                                          Matthew 14:25-29        Peter saw Jesus walking on the water and wanted to go to Him. He wanted Jesus to do a miracle for him. He wanted a great work to happen in his life. He believed...

Who or What?

" Pride is concerned with who is right. Humility is concerned with what is right."      Think back to the last argument you had. What were you defending in the argument? It was probably your own opinion. Obviously, you aren't going to argue for something you don't think. But were you arguing because what you were saying was right or because you wanted to be right?         What if the next time you wanted to argue with someone you stopped and considered what was right instead of who  was right? We should be less concerned with proving that we are right so that we can focus on what is right. If there's a job to be done and there's two people with two different ideas on how to complete the job, and both person fights for themself being right instead of the right way of doing it, the job will never get done correctly. It doesn't seem very smart. Common sense would tell us to argue for the right even if it's not what we originally thoug...

Tempted to Sin

This month's devotional comes from Mrs. Anne Adams from Heritage Baptist Church in Palmyra, N.Y.    But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. When you are tempted to sin, remember what price God had to pay to cover that sin. God's mercy is new every morning but we should fear God and the consequences the sin will bring into our life and the conseq...
