The Ultimate Love

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."  John 3:16     God's love is so great- it is undescribable. It is a complete, pure, selfless love. It is the ultimate love that we, as Christians, can experience every day by cultivating a relationship with God. People often say, "I just want someone who will love me for who I am." Well God does. He loves everyone completely- no matter who   they are or what they've done.      God loves us, and He wants us to love Him back. 1 John 4:19 says, "We love Him because He first loved us." God wants our love and devotion in return for His love.      I could go on forever about God's love- but I think I will sum it up with the words of Frederick M. Lehman. This is how Mr. Lehman described the love of God:                       ...

The Child's Love

"Jesus said unto him, thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind." Matthew 22:37     Have you ever noticed that when a little kid loves someone or something, there are no reservations? When a kid falls in love with a stuffed animal, that thing is perfect. No matter what could possibly be wrong with it, it's the best thing ever. When a four-year-old attaches themself to you, they don't care what you look like, what you wear, or how well you can sing- you are just the coolest person ever.      That is how we are to love Christ. He is our Father, and we are His children. We are to love God with everything in us, just like a little kid loves their favorite toy. With no reservations. No matter what goes wrong in our lives, we must trust Him.      Last summer a little girl who rode the bus to my church decided that I was her new favorite. She followed me all over the place, sat with me, ...

The Christian's Love

“By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.” John 13:35 In Matthew chapter 5, verse 14, Jesus said; “Ye are the light of the world” so, if we are ‘the light” then how do we shine? Well, just a few verses later, in Matthew 5:16 it says, “Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your father which is in Heaven.”  Back in John 13, we are told that we are to love one another. Churches should be full of people who care about and encourage each-other. We should be praying for one-another and helping one another.  The unsaved people around us should see that we are different. Luke 6:32 says, “For if ye love them which love you, what thank have ye? for sinners love also those that love them.” The lost people that you know will not understand when you go to the house of your elderly neighbor and help them for nothing. They won’t understand when you work around the church just to be a blessing to y...

The Forbidden Love

"Love not the world, nor the things that are in the world.  If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him."      I John 2:5     As Christians, we are commanded not to love the things of the world. If we love the world, then not be able to love God the way we should. The Bible says in Matthew 6:24 that "No man can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one, and love the other, or else he will hold to one and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon."      If we want to have a close walk with God, then we cannot let anything come before God. Lots of Christians will skip church so that they can watch a ball game. Or so that their kids can play in some kind of game. Christians will go to family reunions on Sundays and miss church. And there are countless other things that people put before God.      Would you lower your standards in order to be popular? Would you skip a mid-week ser...

Protecting Your Heart

This month's devotional comes from Mr. Luke Tullock from Heritage Baptist Church in Palmyra, N.Y.                                                                Protecting your Heart             Proverbs 4:23 “Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.”  February is sometimes known as “heart month”. We celebrate Valentine’s Day, and it is also known as the month that we are supposed to focus on protecting ourselves from heart disease. What is so important about the heart? Why is heart health so important? Physically, your heart pumps the blood all throughout your body. In the 1700’s a man named William Harvey discovered the circulation of the blood which revolutionized medical science! If your heart stops pumping your blood, everything else fails…your he...
