Who has the Throne?

" Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him.   For in that he died, he died unto sin once: but in that he liveth, he liveth unto God.   Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.   Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.  For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace.   What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid.   Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his  servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousn...

Safety

" Where no counsel is, the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors there is safety." Proverbs 11:14     Everyone wants to make good decisions, right? I don't think I've ever heard anyone tell me that they wanted to make a mess out of their life. In this verse we are told that if we fail to get counsel, we will fall. Falling is no fun- you make a mess of yourself, you usually get hurt, and your forward progress is hindered. So if you want to avoid all of this- get counsel. You might think that you know enough to make decisions, or you might know that you don't, and you've got other reasons for not asking. Maybe you don't know who to ask. Maybe you're afraid of what your friends will think. Maybe you have a totally different reason.      As teenagers, we will be making a lot of big decisions in the next few years. A first job, a car, whether to go to college or not, what to do with your life, who to marry, and 100 other things. Get some advice ...

No Other Foundation

"For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ." 1 Corinthians 3:11     In 1804 Edward Mote wrote these words: My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus' blood and righteousness; I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly lean on Jesus' name. On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand: all other ground is sinking sand; all other ground is sinking sand.      What are you trying to build your life on? This verse tells us that no one can lay any foundation- there is already one in place. You can choose to build on the foundation- Jesus Christ- or you can build your life without a foundation. The song says, "All other ground is sinking sand". That doesn't seem like a foundation to me. If you build your life on money, possessions, people, or anything except Jesus, your life is not going to turn out well.       I have seen a lot of people in my life that have tried to build their lives on their own- and they fai...

Blessed be the Lord

"Blessed  be  the Lord,  who  daily loadeth us  with benefits, even  the God of our salvation. Selah." Psalm 68:19     We are loaded with benefits! We deserve nothing, and we are given so much! I think that when we're asked if we have anything "we would like to praise God for" in church or anywhere else, we ought to have an answer immediately. We are so used to the things that God gives us every day that we become ungrateful without even realizing it. When was the last time that you just took a few minutes to thank God for a house to live in, fresh air to breath, food to eat, or your shoes?      "Blessed be the Lord." We ought to give praise and glory to God every day. "I will bless the Lord at all times: his praise shall continually be in my mouth." Psalm 34:1.   "O give thanks unto the LORD; call upon His name: make known his deeds among the people." Psalm 105:1. We are to praise the Lord not only in our private prayers, but ...

A Healthy Heart

I am writing this devotional as told to me by my father, Mr. David Adams from Heritage Baptist Church in Palmyra, N.Y.     A little more than two weeks ago I had open heart surgery. It was the most painful thing I have ever had to experience, but I was not afraid to go through it because I knew that God was in control. God knew that my family needed me, and I believed that my work on earth was not yet done. However, my prayer was for God's will, and if He decided to bring me to Heaven, I had peace about that also.      I had a bad heart because of the poor choices I made in my life. I have had heart problems my whole life, yet I chose to ignore them and ate a lot of food that wasn't good for my heart. This caused my heart to get worse and worse, until I finally had to have the surgery. If I had not had the surgery, the blockage would have killed me eventually. Sin is the same way. We have all had a sin problem our whole lives and if we ignore it, it will g...
