Enmity with God?

"...know ye not that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God." James 4:4

"I do not want everyone to like me. I should be ashamed if some people did." -Henry Jacob

Does the world love you? We know that the Bible says, "Love not the world" but it also says that we should be a peculiar people, and that the world will persecute us. If the world loves you, something is wrong. I don't mean that people should be screaming at you and throwing things when they see you on the street, but they shouldn't feel comfortable around you either. They should see you coming and know that you won't tolerate bad language or inappropriate jokes. They should know that you won't stand by and let them make fun of others. They should know that if they talk to you, they are going to hear about Christ.

Don't lower yourselves to the worlds standards to make them feel comfortable so you can 'have an opening' to share the Gospel. You are the light of the world! Let your light shine as brightly as possible by having standards that clearly set you apart! Our actions speak louder than our words, and they speak constantly.

James is very clear that if you are the friend of the world, you are the enemy of God. There is no neutral ground. If you love the world, or if the world loves you, you need to step back and figure out what you're doing wrong. Shine bright with the light of Christ in a dark world.
