No Fellowship
"And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them..."
Ephesians 5:11
This verse instructs us to "have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness". So what are the unfruitful works of darkness? Unfruitful would be unproductive. Nothing good is going to come from these works. No progress is being made- they're useless.
"...works of darkness" In the Bible darkness is often associated with sin. In John 3:19 it says "men loved darkness rather than light". And as humans with a sinful nature, we do love darkness (sin) much more than we do light(the things we are supposed to do). We prove this every day as we struggle with sinful desires.
So have no fellowship with sin. This doesn't mean that you can't be casual friends with your unsaved co-workers, and that you can't have a good relationship with you family members that aren't serving God. Those are things that can help lead people to Christ. But those people shouldn't be your best friends or they will start to lead you away from Christ. Having no fellowship with sin also means not identifying yourself with sinful things. Don't support things that are glorifying Satan and sin.
"Rather reprove them." If there's a situation where something is being done wrong, and it involves you, say something! If your friends are being disrespectful to someone, kindly say "Hey, guys, this isn't ok. This shouldn't be happening". Don't let people think that you're ok with the sin.
This doesn't require loosing friends and cutting off people who do something wrong in front of you. Everyone sins. Just learn to refuse what is wrong, to say that it's wrong, and stick to it.
