Prepare for Battle

“The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.”

Proverbs 21:31

In Bible days horses were a valuable tool in war. They provided a speed and strength that men did not have. They were a resource that men were wise to put to good use. It would have been foolish to leave all the horses in the pasture when they went to war. They could better meet the enemy with their horses prepared to fight.

We have an enemy to fight also. Satan is walking about seeking to devour you, and you must fight him. And although God is ultimately the victor over Satan, we must prepare to fight him. It would be foolish of us to say, "Well, I'm trusting God for the victory and I'm not going to worry about Satan attacking me.". Yes, it is a good thing to trust God- we must trust Him. But we will be devoured by Satan if we do not heed God's Words and prepare for battle in the ways He tells us to. We can't sit back do nothing, because if we do, we won't survive the battle.

So how do we 'prepare for battle'? First we must pray to God for help and strength. We can't win the battle in our own strength. We cannot simply believe that God can defeat Satan for us, we must also ask Him to. In James 4 it says, "ye have not, because ye ask not". If you ask God for His strength and wisdom He will give it. James 1:5 says, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him."

Another tool we can prepare with is Scripture. Memorize God's Word so that you will have it at the ready when Satan attacks. Jesus used Scripture when He was tempted. In Psalm 119:11 it says, "Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee."

The Lord is our strength and protection, but the preparation for battle cannot be ignored. Begin to prepare to fight today!

  2. Well said, Megan! Everyone wants to have victory, but so few are willing to pay the price of preparation!
