Who or What?
"Pride is concerned with who is right. Humility is concerned with what is right."
Think back to the last argument you had. What were you defending in the argument? It was probably your own opinion. Obviously, you aren't going to argue for something you don't think. But were you arguing because what you were saying was right or because you wanted to be right?
What if the next time you wanted to argue with someone you stopped and considered what was right instead of who was right? We should be less concerned with proving that we are right so that we can focus on what is right. If there's a job to be done and there's two people with two different ideas on how to complete the job, and both person fights for themself being right instead of the right way of doing it, the job will never get done correctly. It doesn't seem very smart. Common sense would tell us to argue for the right even if it's not what we originally thought. But pride tells us to argue for ourselves and our opinions. Pride will cause us to do things the wrong way and make the wrong decisions just so that we can be 'right'. Arguing our point of view over the right one won't change the fact that we're wrong.
Keeping this in mind might help you avoid a lot of arguments. Stop fighting for yourself and start arguing for what is right.
