I Will Not Fear
"The LORD is on my side; I will not fear, what can man do unto me?"
Psalm 118:6
There are so many things that people are afraid of in this world. People fear the dark, animals, natural disasters, and other people. But in this verse it says "I will not fear". Now this doesn't mean that we should be foolish. We shouldn't walk down a dark alleyway quoting this verse and then be upset when we get attacked and robbed.
The problem starts when we let our fears control us. If your fears are keeping you from doing the things you need to be doing then you need to change the way you're thinking. Fear can keep you from thinking straight and impair your ability to make decisions. The verse says, "what can man do unto me?". We cannot allow our fear of man to get in the way of living our lives or serving the Lord. The Lord is on our side, so no one can truly harm us. They cannot take away our salvation, God's love for us, or our home in Heaven. John 10:28 says, "And I give unto them eternal life, and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand." And in Matthew 10:28 it says, "And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul...".
It's ok to be afraid sometimes, it's part of being human. But we cannot allow our fears to control us, that's when it becomes sinful. Psalms 56:3 says "What time I am afraid I will trust in Thee.". Give your fears to God and trust in Him. He is on your side!
