You Have an Effect

     "Hello, how are you today?" I greet my customer with a smile as I grab their shopping bags and begin to scan their items. "Alright, how about you?" they respond with a tired smile. "Great, thanks." I reply. As they put their credit card into the machine and punch in the pin I continue scanning and ask, "How's your day been going today?" They nod and say, "Ok so far.". As I put their bag in the car and hand them their receipt I smile and say, "Have a great rest of your day!". "You too!" they reply, and they go on their way. 

    I have had this scenario happen hundreds of times as I work the register at my job. I have interacted with hundreds of different people and effected every one of them in some way. And they have affected me as well. We all have the power to change a person's day, whether for good or for bad. If a customer comes through my line smiling and cheerful, they make my day better. If they come through upset and swearing, they make my day worse. I can have the same effect on the customer. My job is to make sure I help them and do it cheerfully. 

    Evey day you interact with people. Whether it's your coworkers or family all day long, or a 30 second interaction in the store, you have the power to make their day better. It doesn't have to be a big deal, a simple, genuine smile can really make someone's day. Try to make every interaction count. Try to treat people the way Jesus did. Go out of your way to be friendly and interested. The world needs to see Jesus in us. If we don't act differently, why would they ever want to know about your faith? If your always miserable do you really think your coworker will listen when you try to tell them about God? 

   Evey day you have amazing opportunities to make someone's day better. Give someone a smile, or a cheerful hello. You'd be surprised how much of a difference those simple things can make. Treat every interaction like Jesus would, and see how much of a difference you can make.
