"Figure out what Your Purpose is"
"Money is really worth no more than as it can be used to accomplish the Lord's work. Life is worth as much as it is spent for the Lord's service."
-George Muller
Yesterday afternoon my cousin was talking to one of my friends and I and he asked, "so is it nice not to have any school this year?". I immediately answered "Yes!" and my friend said yes too. My cousin (who is a few years older than both of us) said "yeah now you're just at the time of life when you're trying to figure out what your purpose is". My friend looks at me and said that my purpose was "a cashier at Wegmans". "That's NOT my purpose!" I answered. We laughed, but later I started thinking about what my cousin had said. He had said, "You go to work, come home, and go to work again." It sounded a little depressing, but then I thought why I'm going to work. I'm raising money to go to college next year. When I go to college I will be better equipped to serve God with my abilities. So going to work, coming home and going back to work again is helping me prepare to serve the Lord.
"Figure out what your purpose is". Well, every Christians purpose is to serve the Lord. If I spend my life in the pursuit of my own desires, then it is worth nothing. A life spent in the world's work is a wasted life. It's not that work and money are unimportant- we should work hard and be good stewards of our money. But we must not let it take control of our lives. Our ultimate goal with our life and money should be to serve the Lord and accomplish His will. If we commit our lives to the Lord and to His will then we will live a life that is worth something- we will have riches stored in Heaven, riches that will last for eternity.
Don't forget to see God's hand in the "process." Going to Wegman's each day may seem mundane, but even in that - God has a purpose... He is both working in you and through you to be salt and light wherever you are... Working with and for people always has it's challenges. Consider this your first year of college - Life 101 :-)
