Just One More
My brother sang a duet with our youth leader in church today, and I really enjoyed the song because I needed the reminder this week. They sang that "a lifetime of labor is still worth it all, if it rescues just one more soul". I started working at a grocery store about 14 months ago. I haven't had a lot of questions about what I believe and what kind of church I go to. Everyone knows I go to church and I'm "religious", but not very many people had asked about it yet. I had one or two witnessing opportunities, but they hadn't led to anything. Then two weeks ago it started. First a middle-aged lady started asking me why I don't wear pants and what denomination my church was. I answered all of her questions and explained to her my reasons for what I believe. Then a couple days later came the real hard one. I was working with a guy who is the same age as me, and he asked me why I don't wear pants. I said I was a Christian and he asked "what's a Christian?". Oh boy! Where do I even start!? He kept asking questions and I think he wanted answers but was embarrassed to ask. I did the best I could to give him answers (he didn't make it easy😂) and left some tracts with him when I left work.
I never thought it would be so hard! I'm not a shy person and I've never been afraid to talk to people, but turns out that witnessing to someone your own age is hard! I also found that in the moment I really didn't want to do it. But I kept telling myself how important it was and how his whole life could be changed by knowing the things I was telling him.
We all need to remember all the result of what we're doing while we're doing it. If you don't want to hand out a tract because someone might get annoyed at you, decide what's more important- that person being happy with you or that person knowing how to go to heaven?
No matter how awkward it is or how much work it takes, keep witnessing to people. All the work will be worth it if just one more person gets saved. On a radio program I listen to sometimes called the Brinkman Adventures one of the characters said that someday someone you witnessed to will come up to you in Heaven and say 'My mother thanks you, my father thanks you, my children thank you. Thank you for saving my life'.
What a unique oppurtunity!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the encouragement.
Just a few a few weeks ago I heard that quote on the Brinkman adventures. It really makes me stop and think.
