Stop Blowing, Start Glowing

A holy life will produce the deepest impression. Lighthouses blow no horns; they only shine.

-D.L Moody

Just imagine if there was a lighthouse with a big airhorn on the top, and a little man was pulling a cord to make it blow. It wouldn't do much good, would it? If it was daytime the ships would be able to see the rocks, and if it was night the light would help them- and a big noise certainly wouldn't help them know where the rocks were. Not only would the horn be useless, it would also be pretty annoying. No one wants to listen to a noise like that over and over again.

Now imagine a Christian blowing their horn. It doesn't do much good, does it? People don't care what you say, they care what you do. You can tell them all about your faith and say all the things that you believe, but if you don't shine your light by your actions, they won't care a bit. They'll think you're a hypocrite. And a horn-blowing Christian can get pretty annoying. We've all met people who like to think themselves better than everyone else, and talking to them can get pretty tiring.

What we need to do is glow, not blow. We can't just tell people how we're Christians, we need to show them. Today when I was at work on of my coworkers (who was a bit grouchy) said "You're always happy. Maybe I need to go to church". She knows I go to church, and she sees me in a good mood (the joy of the Lord) and she made the connection. She realized that I have something in me that makes me happy that she doesn't have. We work at the same place, we both have good friends, we both do things we enjoy- so what difference was there? She figured it out- church. And if she keeps asking questions like she did today, someday she'll realize it's not really church, but Jesus who makes me so happy(i like to say Jovial :).

So if you're looking to spread the Gospel, shine your light. You are the light of the world, not the horn of the world...so stop blowing and start glowing!
