Worthy of Repetition

This past Friday I returned from a trip to TN (thus why last week's blog post never got finished). I was able to catch up with friends I hadn't seen in years and had a great time. While I was there, I stayed with one of my friends and her parents.

A couple days after I got there I started noticing that my friend, who's a couple years younger than me, had started singing a goofy song I had been singing around the house. The next day she started using a goofy name I called her. I have a habit of tapping the end of my nose with my finger when I'm thinking. The night before I left, I was talking to my friend and she started doing that. "What in the world?" I laughed. "I didn't show you that." "No," she answered. "But you do it all the time."

I don't remember the next few minutes of the conversation because my brain was too busy. I remember thinking that "wow, I knew she was copying all that stuff that we talked about, but I showed her how to do that and I didn't even realize".

This is true for all of us. Someday someone is going to start copying something you do. It could be something as silly as tapping their nose while they think, or it could be as serious as how they treat their parents. Whether we realize it or not, we are influencing those around us very single day.

Now, of course I don't mean to say that it's your fault if someone sins. We all have the free will to make our own decisions. However, if someone who looks up to sees you sinning, they most definitely will be impacted by that. You must make your actions worthy of repetition. Think back over your day yesterday. Would you have wanted a little kid following you around learning how to act from you? If not, some things might need to change. "But be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity." 2 Timothy 4:12
